Three simple mistakes you don’t want to make when it comes to your skincare

1. Not reading skincare product labels
Reading skincare labels is probably the only way to know for certain what you're applying to your skin is both safe and suitable for your skin type. A quick glance over the labels can provide you with an array of information on a product’s use, directions for use, list of ingredients and more. The ingredient list is key as it tells you exactly what’s in your product. Just as you would try to be aware of what you consume internally, the same should be done for what you put on your skin externally. While food labelling is usually pretty self-explanatory, skincare labelling may involve unfamiliar words. Skincare labelling is done based on INCI – International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient. Thus, don't expect to know what is in your skincare product without understanding the INCI terminology.

2. Frequently touching your face
One of the biggest offenders for skin health is touching the face – something many of us are guilty of without even realizing it. Your hand is used to do many things, from touching the phone screen to cutting vegetables etc. Your hands touch a lot of dirty things without you cleaning it and this gets onto the face. Frequently touching the face makes the skin more prone to breakouts, especially if your skin is acne prone. By simply breaking this habit, you can make an incredible improvement in the look of your skin.

3. Using face wipes as a cleanser
Using face wipes in place of a regular cleanser may be convenient, but do they actually work? A common face wipe ingredient is alcohol which works to quickly remove dirt from the skin yet is also very drying and can be especially damaging for those with dry or sensitive skin. This doesn't work in your skin's favour in the long run. Additionally, many face wipes include other chemicals that strip the skin of its natural oils, causing excessive dehydration. A face wipe simply cleans the surface without performing the deep work of a proper face cleanser. Don’t resist the urge to use a face wipe when you feel lazy hun! They might seem like the right choice when in a rush, but resist the urge to give in.
That’s all for this week. Do you have any common skincare mistakes to share? I’d love to read your comment below.
